Structure & Governance
UCLA’s reaccreditation activities are directed by a joint effort of the Senate and Administrators in concert with the Chancellor. Planning and implementation are conducted by committees and working groups of faculty, administrators, staff and students.
A Proposal Steering Committee drafted the Institutional Proposal. This faculty led committee began its work in December 2004 and completed its charge in May 2006. The committee consulted the campus community and the Proposal was vetted by the Senate and Administration.
A WASC Reaccreditation Steering Committee, chaired by Accreditation Liaison Officer Judith L. Smith, provides leadership and coordination of the entire reaccreditation plan. Members include faculty, students and administrative leaders across campus.
Three Theme Workgroups have been convened to assess and develop initiatives for three special themes: 1.) Capstone Experience, 2.) Facilitating Interdisciplinary Education and Research, and 3.) Educational Technology. These groups will draft the thematic essays required for the Capacity and Preparatory Review and play key roles in the Educational Effectiveness Review.
Four Reflective Essay Workgroups will draft the additional essays for the Capacity and Preparatory Review on: 1) General Education, 2) Diversity, 3) Academic Senate Program Reviews, 4) Academic Strategic Planning.
