The first step in the accreditation cycle was the preparation of a document called the “Institutional Proposal,” which provides the roadmap for the work that UCLA will undertake for reaccreditation. It was submitted to WASC in May 2006 and approved in June 2006. UCLA’s Proposal was written by a Proposal Steering Committee composed of faculty and administrators. The Committee, co-chaired by Professors Robin Garrell and Raymond Knapp, was appointed by Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Daniel Neuman in December 2004 and charged with developing a draft Institutional Proposal, including the selection of special themes for special attention in the process. The draft proposal was reviewed and approved by the Chancellor, Provost, other senior administrators, Academic Senate leadership, and Deans.
